Apple Crisp!!! Yummy

So its harvest time here in Ol' Iowa and the trees are over flowing with apples!  And the best apples are picked right from the orchard! Since I love the smell of orchards and fresh apples I got me some.  However my home is in shambles as I am packing so I have nothing to cook with.  I was craving apple crisp but had no clue where the pan was to bake in and did not want to attempt to find it.  As I sat in my chair trying to figure out what to do I saw the crock pot on the counter in the kitchen.  I had no idea what I could do with it but I was determined to find out...So I hit the world wide web and apparently others had thought the same thing because I became bombarded with crockpot apple crisp recipes.  Well none of them sounded perfect so I did some digging and reading and found 3 recipes that I could possibly work with and Betty Crockers original apple crisp (the kind ya bake).  So I took the four recipes tweeked them a bit to my standards and came up with my very own recipe.  My entire family devoured it!!!
9-12 small apples
1/2 cup Flour
1 1/2 cups Quick Oats
3/4 cup Brown Sugar
1 1/2 tsp Cinnamon
1 tsp Nutmeg
1/2 tsp ginger
1/2 cup butter
2 tsp Vanilla

Butter crockpot sides and bottom
Turn crockpot on low

Cut apple into slices
Mix in 2 tbls butter
4 tbls brown sugar (eye what you think is enough to cover apples lightly)

Put in crockpot

Mix together:
Flour, Oats, Brown Sugar, Cinnamon, Nutmeg, Ginger, Butter and Vanilla. Mix well!!!!

Top apples with oat mix

Turn crockpot on high

Put wooden spoon or something to proper up one side of lid (not sure why reciepes say to do so) let cook on high approx 3 hours depending on your crockpot. Check after couple hours to make sure apples are burning. If you feel its too high turn to low and continue cooking until apples are tender. (I cooked on high for 2 hours then low for 1 hour)

For a crisp topping, place in oven on lowest rack and broil for about 5 min or until crisp (i didnt do this step I didnt need to it was perfect for me)

Enjoy with some vanilla ice cream or what every you like

So Hot the ice cream was melting fast!!!

Everyone cleaned their bowls!

If you decide to make this I hope you enjoy it as much as my family did.
Until next time when I find something new to ramble about!!

Kaplan Commercial

I am beginning to feel like the Kaplan University commercial that goes: I can't get a job because I don't have any experience...I don't have any experience because I can't get a job!  I have a four year degree so does the hundreds of other people that have the same degree as I do.  I need a job but where cause I have no experience!  Can you believe I was turned down for a fast food place because I don't have experience.  Not like I was thrilled that I was hoping for a $7 hr job after spending $50k on school but when you have a family, 2 kids, 4 dogs and a house and zero income you can't be too picky! Wow life can be tough.  I pray and pray no answers yet, hope he heres me soon!

Hawkeye season begins

Well we are coming to the start of the Iowa Hawkeye season and people are getting crazy.  The first game is this Saturday against Eastern Illinois.  I love Iowa Hawkeye football, however the men can be a little scary.  The weather is starting to feel like football! One day its scorching hot and the next day you need a sweater.  Thats Iowa for ya!!!

Seems like life is about to get busy with high school football on Friday nights, GO Bobcats!!! and Hawkeye football on Saturdays and then there is Sunday night, Monday night and any other night for NFL!!!

I am going to attempt a new reciepe I got today, most people have already tried it, I however have not.  Its chocolate cake in a mug.  Sounds yummy, however could be very dangerous being able to make chocolate cake that fast!! I will let you all know how it goes!!! Well I am off to make supper, BBQ ribs, a regular in this house!
